The Union of Cities of Military Glory (hereinafter referred to as the Union) was established in July 2013 at the 1st founding congress in Belgorod. June 24, 2014 By the decision of the 35th meeting of the Russian organizing committee "Victory", the Union was endowed with the rights of the working group of the ROC "Pobeda".
The Union includes 45 cities awarded the honorary title of the Russian Federation "City of Military Glory" on the basis of the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1340 of December 1, 2006.
Cities of military glory are located on the territory of 6 federal districts, the Central Federal District - 18 cities, the Northwestern Federal District - 14 cities, the Southern Federal District - 5 cities, the North Caucasian Federal District - 4 cities, the Far Eastern Federal District - 3 cities, the Crimean federal district - 1 city, on the territory of 3 republics and 13 administrative territories and regions. The population of cities of military glory is over 9.5 million people.
The main task of the Union is to coordinate the activities of Russian cities of military glory to preserve the military-historical heritage, to develop and implement measures aimed at the patriotic education of citizens of the Russian Federation, to educate the younger generation on the heroic history, combat and labor traditions of cities of military glory, and the history of the Fatherland.
Since its inception, the Union has been actively working to organize and conduct various patriotic events. One of the most significant events is participation in the preparation and conduct of the All-Russian patriotic action "Relay of the Eternal Flame" with the solemn ceremony of transferring the Eternal Flame from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Kremlin Wall to the subjects of the Russian Federation, on the territory of which (for the first time or after reconstruction) memorials with Eternal fire. This event was held as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The Union of Cities of Military Glory regularly holds patriotic forums of youth and high school students, round tables, rallies of search squads, patriotic camps, motor rallies, marathons, contests and other events aimed at forming the patriotic consciousness of citizens. The Union actively cooperates with the Russian Military-Historical Society, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia, the RECOD Research and Production Corporation on the formation of a single geoinformation space for the cities of military glory, the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation , The Research Center for National Security Problems, the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the Federal Agency for Tourism, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, other institutions of the state and civil society.
The Union was the initiator of the construction of the Memorial Complex dedicated to the cities of military glory on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, as well as the initiator of the issue of a series of commemorative coins dedicated to the liberation of the capitals of Europe.

From 25 to 27 June, the capital of Pomorie will host the 7th Congress of the Union of Cities of Military Glory.
