The role of the library in the social rehabilitation of elderly readers

Older people are a rapidly growing socio-demographic group, which makes up the fifth of the country's population. At the same time, the process of aging of the population, characteristic of Russia as a whole, becomes obvious both for the republic. Under these conditions, the value increases social Policyaimed at raising the level and quality of the life of the elderly. In this complex comprehensive process, institutions of social protection and rehabilitation, health care, public associations, cultural institutions are involved. Libraries occupy its place in it.

The role of libraries in the social rehabilitation of the elderly increases because the older generation due to the limited funds is practically deprived of the opportunity to visit the cinema, theater, other paid forms of leisure, using library funds and services of them more accessible.

The results of the study on the service of the elderly in libraries show that the development of servicing this age group does not correspond to the growth rates of the elderly population. Most public libraries although they work with elderly users, but preference gives other age groups. So in our neighborhood, from all libraries, our library is the only one, which has been actively working with retirees for more than one year.

Based on the foregoing, the library chose the work of socially unprotected groups of the population, in particular with elderly readers , as main in its activities.

We defined the main goals, it is:

1. Promoting the integration of older people into society;
2. Ensuring the availability of socio-cultural information for elderly users;
3. Formation of a positive relationship of society to elderly people.

The older generation experiences a social psychological difficulty. Determination of its place in connection with the change in social status, adaptation to the new role in society, the deterioration of health, loneliness, the shortage of communication - these and other problems cause the need for moral and psychological support of the elderly, and often they hope to get it in the library.

We believe that one of the forms of sociocultural rehabilitation of the elderly can be the use of methods liberting , i.e. the impact on the emotional state of a person with the help of a book. This method of the library began to use in its work.

The therapeutic effect is achieved not just due to the recognition in the text of its traumatic situation and the type of emotional response, but also by forming an active independent life position from the reader, which helps to cope with problems in the future.
